the inevitable question

What's wrong with me?

Here are a few great date ideas I've just stolen from the intarwebs:

  • Build forts out of furniture and blankets, and wage war with paper airplanes.

  • Write a piece of fiction together. Outside at a cafe. Ask strangers when you get stuck.

  • Try and visit as many people as you can in one night, and turn as many things inside their apartment upside down as you can, without them noticing.

  • Hide and seek in the park

  • Go around the city with sidewalk chalk and draw hearts with equations inside on random things

  • Dress up as pirates, commandeer shopping carts, and have a war upon the high seas.. er, parking lot.

  • Go on a search for as many good climbing trees as possible, climb as high as you both can in all of them, compile photo evidence

  • In the middle of the night, drive to the beach, so you arrive just as the sun is rising. Have a breakfast picnic, then fall asleep together. Bring a sun umbrella.

And despite these I would never get such a date. Not because they're not wonderful ideas but because I'm me, and nobody wants to go out with me.

So back to the question: what's wrong with me?

You don't know that no one wants to go out with you. Maybe they've not enough confidence to tell you or something, you never know. You're a lovely person, and deserve someone special to hold hands with and kiss occasionally.

Sex isn't everything, as I've found. Intimacy, the whole snuggling into each other and smelling each other and playing with the other's hair and counting freckles and being idiots together and stuff, that's what matters. I wish I had that again. And pretending to be pirates and roaming the carpark would be so much fun, I wish I had the guts to do that.

There's nothing wrong with you. Really, you're a great guy. I wish you knew/believed/understood that.

I want all of those more than I can say. They sound so wonderful. Maybe both of us will find someone who will want to do those, one day. It's kinda ironic, really. There's someone out there for you who loves everything you do and are and want, I promise.
